There is real power behind Photoshop’s ability to use layer masking in image compositing. Combining different visual elements into a single image so that all the elements are part of the same scene can yield some surprisingly cool results. However, pulling this off so that it look realistic can be difficult.
This tutorial will demonstrate how to use the Gradient tool to modify a layer mask so that you can pull of a realistic composite. Here are the links to the images I used. Make sure to read the Creative Commons license applied to both.
