In almost every Photoshop project I put together I find myself duplicating a layer or three. This morning I was thinking about the ways to do this – Jeez…there are a lot of different methods for duplicating layers!
Different ways to duplicate a layer:
- Select the layer that needs duplicating and hit Ctrl + J (Command + J on the Mac)
- In the Layers Palette, drag the layer to the new layer icon

- Right click (command click) on the layer and select “Duplicate”

- Hold down the Alt key and drag the layer down or up

- Click Layer > Duplicate Layer

- Alt drag the layer contents on the canvas

Have some other method for duplicating a layer? Let me know about it!
