Six Ways to Duplicate a Photoshop Layer

In almost every Photoshop project I put together I find myself duplicating a layer or three.  This morning I was thinking about the ways to do this – Jeez…there are a lot of different methods for duplicating layers!

Different ways to duplicate a layer:

  1. Select the layer that needs duplicating and hit Ctrl + J (Command + J on the Mac)
  2. In the Layers Palette, drag the layer to the new layer icon

  3. Right click (command click) on the layer and select “Duplicate”

  4. Hold down the Alt key and drag the layer down or up

  5. Click Layer > Duplicate Layer

  6. Alt drag the layer contents on the canvas

Have some other method for duplicating a layer?  Let me know about it!
